"Physical shot and execution" By Sharon Wallace

My tech tip revolves around my physical shot and execution of my bow and how I feel that puts points on my scoreboard. Anyone who has watched me execute my normal shot knows I pull very hard on the bow. I hold a good amount of weight. I pull very hard in the back wall, and when my shot breaks, it is very explosive and very dynamic; if I am shooting my shot and it is a good physical shot for me. I will explode and open up with my release hand behind my body.
I shoot a handheld, thumb-activated release set very, very heavy. That requires me to pull very hard on the bow. The reasoning behind this is that I find too many people get caught up in trying to aim too carefully and too hard and sometimes lose tension against the back wall. Sometimes, some shooters creep just a little or even have misfires. Some people hang up on their releases and can’t get their shots to go off. These problems are accelerated in pressure situations when you want to make that all-important shot. My way of defending against that, which helped me win all of my titles in 3-D Archery and helped me succeed indoors, including winning the NFAA Indoor Nationals and taking 2nd at the World Archery Festival in Las Vegas, is to pull hard and pull even harder. It helps overcome nerves and jitters. I know if I’m pulling and thinking about going backward with my release hand, then I’m not shooting a soft shot, and I am not creeping nor catering to the movement of my pin. My husband, Jack Wallace, has instilled all this in me and helped me learn and embrace my shot.
The only way to keep that shot perfect, clean, and consistent for me is to be on top of the equipment, the bow, its setup, and its timing. Thankfully, Last Chance Archery has the EZ Deluxe Press that we use continuously, along with their Pro Scales, LCA Draw Board device, and the HS4. These allow me to keep the exact timing of my cams and twist ratio in my strings to give me the holding weight and the timing and the feel of the back wall I need to allow me to do what I need to do at the level I have to in the Women’s Pro Division.
Thank you so much, Last Chance Archery!
